Crimetracker: Rogersville man tells cops he had '12, 14, 24 or 48' beers

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Rogersville man charged with DUI told police he had been drinking "12, 14, 24 or 48 beers."

The Kingsport Times-News reports Hawkins County Deputy Shawn Williams was patrolling Route 66 on Saturday when he saw two vehicles stopped in a turn lane.

The driver of the rear vehicle told the officer the driver in front appeared to be asleep.

Williams found 36-year-old Andy Derrick behind the wheel. The officer said Derrick's speech was slurred and his eyes were almost shut. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested.

Derrick has four previous DUI convictions and two previous convictions for driving on a revoked license.

He is free on $7,500 bond. The court did not have any record on an attorney for Derrick.
