"Rootin' for Regen" takes over Sevier County

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Regen Morris is a 12 year-old fighting an aggressive form of brain cancer called Anaplastic Astrocytoma. But he's not alone in his fight as the people of Sevier County come together to support someone they don't even know.

Since November 2012, Regen has been at battling this rare form of brain cancer at St. Jude Children's Hospital which provides free medical care to children with cancer.

Texas Roadhouse held a "Rootin' for Regen" St. Jude Marathon Fundraiser on Friday at Patriot Park to raise money for St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Roger Wescott from Texas Roadhouse helped to put the event together and said "We wanted to do something. Both of our restaurants spent weeks raising money and so far we're close to $10,000."

People came out from all over the county to show their support by donating money, walking, and checking out the good on the silent auction table.

A group of women from Three Bears General Store in Pigeon Forge shows up to the marathon early and walked the park for hours. They all wore their "Our Smiling Buddy" t-shirts which they made because of Regen's inspiring smile.

Laura Trellar from the Three Bears General Store said "This child is amazing. He goes through so many treatments and no matter what he's smiling. He is just so cheerful despite his condition. He is an inspiration to all of us and that's why we're here walking for him."

Employees from Texas Roadhouse even put together a quilt for him to remind me of all the support from home.

Hillary Vite from Texas Roadhouse said "We asked all the businesses who are 'Rootin for Regen' to give us a t-shirt and with the shirts we made a quilt."

It's the small things and the big things that Sevier County is doing to support one of their own.
