KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- She dedicates her time and effort to make sure immigrants and refugees have a place to gather and worship in their communities. For that, Home Federal Bank named Sandra Fugate a 2013 Hometown Hero.

Fugate, a member of Salem Baptist Church, created a task force of church members from all across the area that is dedicating their time to help immigrants and refugees, especially those from Burundi.

She is a volunteer mentor, tutor, trainer, planner, promoter and coordinator.

For her effort, Home Federal Bank donated $2,500 to Light Mission Pentecostal Church, one of the churches where she volunteers, in Fugate's name.

She's also in the running for an additional $2,500 if she's selected as the overall winner among 10 finalists.
