HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) A Scott County woman is looking for answers after her dog and best friend was killed.
Lisa Byrd's dog, Rascal, was given to her as a Christmas gift by one of her sons to keep her company. Earlier this week, Rascal was shot and killed by a Scott County correctional officer.
"He was loaded up on a four wheeler and took off down towards the river and just throwd out, just like he was trash," says Byrd.
Police officers found the deceased dog in a bag lying on the side of an abandoned road.
Scott County Sherrif, Mike Cross, says the correctional officer who shot the dog has been placed on administrative leave. He said he doesn't tolerate that kind of behavior in his department.
