SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Sevierville doctor was among those in Boston and had finished the Boston Marathon just over an hour before the bomb went off.
Doctor John Hood was back in his office on Wednesday and says the reality of what happened in Boston is still going through his mind.
"It sounded like a cannon going off," said Hood. "Initially you thought oh hey something for the race and then 10 seconds later you heard a second one."
Hood heard the blast nearly 2 blocks away, 1 hour and 10 minutes after crossing the finish line. He says people in his area had no clue what was going on.
"I just walked up to people and said hey does any body know what's going on?" he said. "All of a sudden the police ran towards the finish line and the people started screaming. and then you heard sirens and you heard you know get out of the street."
Hood says he and others wanted to go see what was going on, but police wouldn't let them. He says after news spread he got phones call from family and friends and that's how he found out what was going on.
Now that he's back working in his office he's already making plans to run the marathon next year and hopes others will do the same.
"It'd excite me to see this event grew to double the size to prove to whoever did this no we're not going to let you get the best of us, no that's not what the Lord wants," said Hood.
Dr. Hood says he was able to get back to Sevierville as he originally scheduled.
