SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Sevier County veterans and community members got together on Monday to honor those who have served our country.

A service Monday morning at the Sevier County Courthouse saw dozens of people who wanted to honor veterans and those who've fallen while serving our country.

"it's a community coming out and showing their appreciate for all of our service and it's very important to me," said Paul Whaley, Manager of Veterans Services. "We've got brave men and women deployed now and we owe them our support."

Veterans who put the service together, say there's a bigger problem today for veterans who come home from war. They say there's a second war once they are home and trying to adjust back to a normal life.

Veterans are having a big problem of finding work after getting home. Tom Munson, with Disabled American Veterans, says it is tough on a man or woman to adjust back to home life after 4 or 5 tours of duty and no work available when they get back.

"That devistated the whole family, and sometimes the family is forgotten, then he comes back he can't find a job and that's what we're trying to do is to help them with that," said Munson.

Latest figures show that many veterans can't deal with the pressure. 18 veterans a day commit suicide and an average of 950 attempts each month.

A suicide hotline is available for veterans who need to talk to someone about suicide. 1-800-273-8255 is a number to call for current and former service members.
