KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Police Dept. is still investigating an officer-involved shooting outside of West Town Mall on Thursday that sent one man to the hospital.
KPD spokesperson Darrell DeBusk said the suspect Abraham Dudley, 30, was struck in the lower torso area and taken to UT Medical Center. HIs sister says he's in his second surgery as of Friday afternoon at 6pm. His sister says he's in stable condition.
The shooting occurred around 5:22 p.m. in the mall parking lot behind Dillard's.
Investigators have conducted several statements from people at the scene, DeBusk said. Witnesses told police they saw a woman running away from Dudley and that the suspect was trying to force her into his car. They said Dudley indicated he had a weapon and was going to "shoot" her.
Dudley and the woman are the parents of a 2 year-old girl who was inside of the vehicle at the time.
The officer involved in the shooting was identified as Christopher Edmunds. Edmunds, who has been with the department since September 2009, was placed on administrative leave with pay in compliance with standard operating procedure.
