HERNDON, Va. (CBS) -- Fairfax County authorities say three people suffered minor injuries when a small plane crashed into the living room of an apartment in Herndon, Virginia

Capt. Willie Bailey with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue says the plane was headed from the Philadelphia area to Manassas Regional Airport early Friday when it ran out of fuel and crashed shortly after 12:15 AM Friday.

Fairfax county fire officials say three people - two in the apartment and one in the Cessna 177B - had minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

The Red Cross is helping nine adults, seven children and three pets who had to leave the building.
