Woman and her two dogs escape South Knoxville fire

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Firefighters were called to a home in the 400 block of Mayfield Avenue in South Knoxville shortly before midnight Friday.

When they got there, heavy smoke was coming from the windows and doors. Everyone was already out of the building.

The 60-year-old woman says she smelled something burning and called for help.

Firefighters say they had a difficult time advancing their hoses due to the dangerously large volume of obstacles inside the home.

No one was hurt. The cause is under investigation.

The woman is getting help from the American Red Cross.
