KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The students at Spring Hill Elementary School were given a very special project for arts and crafts this afternoon, providing a little holiday cheer to our troops overseas in the form of holiday cards.

"This is the holiday mails for hero's campaign. It is something we do every year. What is great about it is that it is somethng anyone can participate in," says Benjamin Prijatel, Communications Directorfor the American Red Cross.

So it was time to grap the marking pencils, get a little instruction, and start creating. It didn't talke long for these first graders to put their heads down and work their magic. Drawing is something they do most of the year, but this time there is a special meaning to the assignment, and they got the message.

"Dear soldiers, thank you to save our world," says one student.

The campaign is designed to "give something that means something" for the holiday season and symbolizes what our troops are giving for us

"Thank you for fighting for our country, I wish you a merry Christmas and a merry New Year - i hope this is your present."

To participate in the program, just send a card to:
