KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The State Street Garage expansion is a $6.1 million project that will add 250 new spaces to the garage's existing 842 spaces. It will also add an elevated walkway across State Street to connect to Gay Street, replacing the now-closed escalator.
State Street will reopen Monday, March 11, 2013 while South Central Street will close until April 15, 2013.
This means drivers will not be able to access Neyland Drive if they turn onto South Central from Summit Hill Drive, and they will not be able to turn onto South Central from Union Avenue at all. The closure is necessary to accommodate a large construction crane.
The delay will allow for an additional 250 parking spaces to stay open for the next couple of days.
