KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Veterans looking for work can get some extra help from the state. It started Thursday with the Paychecks for Patriots hiring fairs at Tennessee Career Centers across the state, including the one on University Avenue in Knoxville.
Employers came out with open positions and advice to help veterans translate their skills to civilian work. Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, Many-Bears Grinder, says civilian employers appreciate veterans' skills in teamwork, leadership, responsibility and reliability, but they sometimes need a little help transitioning away from a military lifestyle.
"Our veterans that will walk away from here with jobs are very talented. They carry a lot of skills, experience from their military positions, that can translate into a great employee for civilian employers," Grinder said.
Those who didn't make it out to the job fair Thursday, or who didn't find a job while there, can find plenty of resources through the state. For more information, click the included link.
