KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT)- Webb School of Knoxville students will help a local family build a brighter future this Saturday, September 28, at the kick-off of Webb School's sixth Habitat for Humanity House.
Nicknamed "Blitz Day," Webb student and teacher volunteers will join Knoxville Habitat for Humanity supervisors and the partner family on Saturday to begin work on the floor, exterior walls and roofing of a three-bedroom house at 4919 Lincoln Drive, off of I-40 and Rutledge Pike in Knoxville.
Continuing a Webb School service tradition that began in 2001, Webb volunteers will work Saturdays throughout September, October, and into early November; installing interior walls, roof shingles, siding, and insulation, as well as painting and putting in cabinets. Completion is scheduled for mid-November.
Webb's partnership with Knoxville Habitat for Humanity is an ideal opportunity for Webb students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni to come together while helping to make a difference in someone else's life, says Webb Upper School community service coordinator, Margaret Ritchie. "Our volunteers see a very real and tangible result from their service," adds Ritchie. "And to share that experience with the future homeowners is extremely rewarding for everyone involved."
Habitat for Humanity is an independent, nonprofit, Christian housing ministry that partners with people of all beliefs.
