KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Buddy's Bar-B-Q kicked off its Race Against Cancer Thursday morning at the Bearden Banquet Hall.
Team captains met to talk about successfully raising $475,000 with 5,000 registered participants.
That money will be used Thompson Cancer Survival Center to provide prostate, skin, colon, and cervical cancer screenings and mammograms.
"The money that we raise through the Buddy's Race actually stays right here in East Tennessee. It will help people that can't afford it, don't have access to it, don't have knowledge," says Chair Melissa Edwards.
The Race Against Cancer is scheduled for November 9 at World's Fair Park.
