JACKSBORO, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Doctors diagnosed Katelyn Norman, 15, with cancer two years ago. Last week she learned it had spread to her heart and pelvis.
She posted a bucket list on Facebook outlining several things she'd like to do before she died. One of those is ride on the back of a motorcycle.
Now, the Shepherds R.C. Motorcycle Club has stepped up to help. The club was formed in honor of Channon Christian, who was carjacked and murdered in 2007. Channon's dad, Gary Christian said, "We want to see this dream fulfilled... We're familiar with riding with angels. This is the kind of thing that makes me think Channon brought her [Katelyn] to us."
Everyone is invited to ride with the Shepherds Saturday. Meet at "Quaker Steak and Lube" off Merchants Drive in North Knoxville at 1:00 p.m.
Another item on Katelyn's bucket list is to go to the prom.
Now, a special prom is planned at The Stables and the theme is "Katelyn in the Sky with Diamonds." It will be energetic, a celebration of Katelyn's life.
After the prom, they're asking people to come out and line the street with candles. There's a Facebook page with more information. Search for "Light the Night for Kate".
A number of people around the community are reaching out to help Katelyn. Jeff Parrot is one of those. He plans to make a cross for her and her family out of old railroad spikes. "To me the cross is the ultimate comfort and peace and maybe they'll feel some sort of peace," said Parrott.
Katelyn wrote on her Facebook, "So yes it's true. The beginning of the end of my days. My cancer has spread. Thank you to everyone who is making my bucket list come true."
If you would like to contribute money to help with Katelyn's wish list, there's an account open at Y-12 Credit Union.
