Tenn. teacher wins screenplay contest

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) -- An East Tennessee instructor is headed to California to pursue his dream of writing screenplays.

Stephen Woodward of Kingsport says he will try to sell his screenplay "Crush," which recently won the WriteMovies International Screenwriting Competition. The Times-News reports that Woodward won a cash prize and WriteMovies will help him further develop his script and pitch it to appropriate studios.

Woodward says in California he plans to pitch "Crush" and other projects at the Great American PitchFest, which Hollywood producers attend to find new material. He says WriteMovies will either find him an agent or represent him as an agent while he is there.

Woodward is an adjunct college instructor who teaches composition at Northeast State Community College.
