KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- USA Today Sports' writer Paul Myerberg released his countdown to the start of college football season. Myerberg ranked the teams one by one from number 125 to number 1.
The Tennessee Volunteers were right in the middle of the pack this year, with a ranking of 62. This is a step down from last year when the Vols were originally ranked number 28, and Myerberg does not see huge potential under new head coach Butch Jones in his first year.
"Jones' history suggests that UT won't hit its stride in year one, but rather year two," Paul Myerberg wrote. "That doesn't bother me: I think Jones gets the Vols into the postseason by taking care of the weak opponents and notching three wins in SEC play. Jones will lead the way; UT's going to follow."
