KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Facing "strong economic pressures" and looming major legislative changes in the health care industry, Tennova Healthcare parent Health Management Associates (HMA) announced it will eliminate 75 jobs in Knoxville.
The move comes as HMA consolidates its business office operations. It plans on moving the 75 positions to a regional service center in Arkansas.
Workers affected by changes will be offered an opportunity to relocate to any of its new service centers in Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, and Mississippi. They can also get help transitioning into another position at Tennova.
HMA blamed the cuts on a "challenging economic environment" and the "pending implications of the Affordable Care Act." The company made no mention of its forthcoming sale to Franklin-based Community Health Associates.
