LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Thanksgiving is less than a week away and while you might have already shopped for your big meal; some people won't be able to afford a holiday feast this year. That's why The Good Samaritan Center of Loudon County has hundreds of food baskets ready to go for Saturday's distribution.
It all started in 1999 with 30 families and since then it's grown to over 800 families.
Together with Walmart, GoodSam buys all the food for the baskets with money donated from the people of Loudon County.
Each basket costs around $25.00 and includes turkey, stuffing, yams, green beans, corn, rolls cranberry sauce and dessert.
Donnie Wells, a manager at Walmart said "It doesn't seem like a lot but then you hand a family a basket and they tear up because they are so grateful-- it really makes it all worth wild."
