The Economics of Pill Addiction

COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) --- One pill. That's it; $200 gas grill, $60 video game, $1500 tv It doesnt matter.

The things you work so hard for are worth one pill.

How do we know the currency of the drug world? Because Ricky told us.

"If I didn't have a pill that morning I didn't care what I had to do."

Ricky Hembree was arrested in January for numerous thefts, all to support a habit.

Roxycontin, Oxycontin, if it had morphine he'd shoot it.

And your house was the bank.

"Its terrible" Ricky leaned up against the brick jail walls, his face swollen with tears, "its like black magic. It possesses you it'll take your soul if you'll let it."

Ricky talked to us so others don't do what he did.

He lost his teeth, lost his freedom, and lost his family.

His two daughters are serving 20 years for drugs, his son charged more than 17 times. All for oxy.

"If you keep on doing it there's 3 things thats going to happen; you'll go to jail, you'll lose your health and next you're going to lose your life." Ricky told us as deputies walked him back behind the thick steel door.

There is no answer for addiction.

A decade in prison for one pill.
