KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Halloween is right around the corner and there's plenty of options when it comes to trick or treating in the area.
The following events happen on Halloween night, Monday October 31st.
The Knoxville Police Department presents their 10th annual Halloween on the Plaza. It's a family friendly alternative for families looking to trick or treat safely and for free. There will be games and activities for elementary-aged kids in costume at the Mary Costa Plaza at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The fun kicks off at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The 18th annual Carnegie Hall Safe Trick-or-Treat event will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Carnegie Hall and Beeson Village on the Maryville College campus.
Local elementary-aged children and their parents are invited.
In addition to walking through the residence halls, children are invited to participate in games and activities set up in the parlor of Carnegie Hall.
The City of Athens along with the Athens Optimist Club will be holding the annual county-wide Halloween Costume Contest at McMinn County High School at 6:30 pm.
The costume contest will be held in conjunction with the school's Haunted Hallways which is an opportunity for young people to trick or treat in a safe environment. The event is open to the public from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and there is no admission charge.
The Athens Optimist Club is the sponsor of the children's and youth costume contest and has been so for over two decades. The contest is open to all children between ages of 0 and 17. Age divisions will be judged as follows: age 0-3, age 4-1st grade, 2nd-6th grade, and 7-12th grade. The Athens Parks and Recreation Department is the sponsor the Adult Costume Contest for ages 18 and up. Prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in all categories.
The Knoxville Center Mall will hold their own trick or treating event from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It's another free family fun event where kids can trick or treat in a safe environment.
The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department along with the Scarboro Community Network Committee will host the 3rd annual "Trunk or Treat" Event. The fun kicks off at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. It will be held at the Scarboro Community Center, 148 Carver Avenue in Oak Ridge.
The West Town Mall will host a trick or treat event from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. It's a safe and family friendly alternative that's free to the public. Plus, there's a magic show with Dr. Despicable, a favorite mad scientist. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Amphitheater.
