CARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Campbell Co. Sheriff's Office announced it has arrested three people in connection with burglaries at churches and homes in Caryville.
Sheriff Robbie Goins added that while his department has wrapped up the initial stages of its investigation, investigators are still collecting evidence and the case is still on-going.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am of our investigators, Captain Brandon Elkins and Detective Sgt. Freddie White. They have worked non-stop for some time and will continue to follow the investigation and leads wherever it may take them," said Goins.
"I want to be perfectly clear; the investigation is still on-going. We will not stop until the cases are fully adjudicated in a court of law,” he continued.
Two of the three individuals were juveniles and, as such, not identified. The third suspect was listed as 19 year-old Walter John Meachum, of Caryville, who is already being held in Anderson Co. on related charges.
So far, the Campbell Co. Sheriff's Office has charged him with Burglary, Vandalism over $1000, and Desecration of a Venerated Object in connection with the incident at Glade Springs Baptist Church. He also faces 2 counts of each Aggravated Burglary and Theft over $1,000 as well as Vandalism over $500 stemming from a pair of home burglaries.
One of the juveniles, 17, is accused of burglarizing and/or vandalizing eight churches, while a 14 year-old juvenile is facing charges for the incident at Glade Springs Baptist Church.
Goins said more charges are pending on all of them.
