SHARP'S CHAPEL, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The deaths of a Union County couple appear to be accidental, according to the sheriff's department. Investigators say there are no signs of foul play.
The couple has now been positively identified as James and Sylvia Jardine. They were discovered in the hot tub of their Lake View Drive home.
The investigation is ongoing.
Union County deputies are investigating two bodies found in a hot tub at a home on Lakeview Drive in Sharp's Chapel.
Family members contacted the Sheriff's Office because they hadn't heard from their elderly relatives living there since Friday.
Deputies said they went to the home around 11:30 Monday night to check on the couple. All of the doors and windows were locked, and no one answered. They entered them into a missing persons database shortly after 1:30 Tuesday. Around 2:45 a.m., a neighbor gave deputies a key and during their search, they found the bodies of a man and a woman in a hot tub on the property.
They said it's not clear how long the bodies had been there, but said right now, there's no obvious signs of foul play.
The bodies were sent for autopsies Tuesday afternoon. The Sheriff's Office and TBI are still investigating. At this point, they haven't identified the bodies as the missing couple.
