Rocky Top Products wants to build a 20 million dollar resort and amusement park in Lake City. Under one condition, the city changes it's name to Rocky Top, Tennessee. Commissioners tell me they have had very positive feedback from residents in Lake City.
Some of the plans have changed. The first stage would be built downtown and include the Knotty Pine 3-D Animated Interactive Theater, Indoor Coal Miners Music Theater, paddle boat restaurant, and a water park. It will be built on the property adjacent to where the ball field is now. There will be a new sports complex where the museum is going to be.
Second and third phases will be located off the Lake City exit which will include the 100 bed Bear Lodge and restaurant.
The fourth phase will be an amusement park built in the northern end of Lake City which encompasses part of Campbell County.
Those plans hinge on the city's name change to Rocky Top. Commissioner Tim Isbell tells Local 8 News 98% of the feedback is positive. He says the area codes and zip codes will remain the same, just the address will change from Lake City, TN to Rocky Top, TN.
There will be a bean and cornbread social for the public on November 1st. Everyone from Lake City to Knoxville is invited to attend.
