KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The University of Tennessee has debuted its new $40 million music center.
The showpiece of the Natalie M. Haslam Music Center is the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall. The recital facility features 412 seats with navy leathers on the front and birch wood on the back. A curtain that can adjust the room's acoustics is hidden by cherry wood slats and the stage is graced by a Steinway & Sons grand piano.
UT School of Music associate direct Angel Batey called the 123,000 square-foot facility a "game-changer" for the program. She says it will help the school recruit top-notch students.
