KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The University of Tennessee announced today that Pat Summitt has agreed to a one-year extension to remain involved with the women’s basketball program in her ongoing role as head coach emeritus.
Summitt made $354,000 in her first year as coach emeritus, the new contract is worth $85,000 for one year.
Summitt led the Tennessee women’s basketball program for 38 seasons (1974-2012) and 1,098 victories. She will continue to serve the women’s basketball program and its coaching staff this year in a variety of ways, including as a liaison to the Director of Athletics, on-campus recruiting, and serving as a mentor to players and staff.
“We are excited to have Pat Summitt continue to be affiliated with our athletics department, and specifically our women’s basketball program, which she built into the finest program in the nation,” said Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dave Hart. “Her continued example of leadership and courage sends an everlasting message to our student-athletes, coaches and staff.”
