UT student hurt as SUV drops 150 feet off Knoxville exit embankment

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- LiJoyce Bridges, 19 year-old UT student, was is in critical condition after being thrown from an SUV after it went off an exit ramp and down an embankment early Tuesday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Dept.

Another passenger, Kristen Molnar, 18, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as well, while the driver, Walter Hills, 19, wasn't hurt. Both of them have been released from the hospital.

Police say their SUV went off the road on the Alcoa Highway south at Cherokee Trail exit around 5:45 a.m. and plunged down a steep embankment.

They believe all three of them had been to a party.

Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in and around the SUV, police said. They added that the driver will be charged with DUI.
