Volunteer Spirit: Blankets for Babies on Christmas collection underway

WEST KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- Babies born with critical complications or prematurely are sometimes too fragile, they can't even be held in their parents' arms.

But thanks to two mom's Volunteer Spirit, these newborns will be wrapped up in TLC on Christmas.

Julie Beeler says, "I called the NICU and I said what can I do can I clean the toilets? Can I do something I want to give back. Anything I can do, they were amazing in saving my son's life."

Brody Beeler came into the world way too soon.
"He was emergency c-section at 25 weeks. They did not think he was going to make it for a few weeks. It was a rough stay, 103 days," says mom.

That's when Julie Beeler met Jackie Belin. Jackie had already been down that road.

Jackie started he Saving Grace Project named after her daughter, Alli Grace born weinging 14 ounces.
She says Along with bad news often from docs, they received so many wonderful gifts, so she wanted to give back.

Jackie launched blankets for babies last year collecting 300 and delivering them to ET Children's Hospital and UT Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Units.

The blankets are given to babies who are in the NICU's during Christmas.

So far this year they've collected around 300. They want 200 more so they can reach out to hospitals with NICU's in Johnson City and Chattanooga.

Both Alli and and Brody are doing great right now, they're just slightly delayed compared to kids their age, according to their moms.
