WWII vet honored at home where he spent final days

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A big recognition in Knoxville on Saturday. The Disabled American Veterans dedicated a bench in honor of a WWII recipient.

The veteran, Joe Humphrey, passed away back in December, but his family was at the Ben Atchley State Veterans Home for the dedication ceremony.

"The number here was surprising to us. I'm sure it for our family as well. We really are so appreciative for this memorial bench dedication today and we just can't say thank you enough to everybody. We really appreciate it," said Humphrey's grandson Gilbert Campbell.

Humphrey lived at the veterans' home just before he died.
