A LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT is in effect into Wednesday due repeated rainfall. A Flood Watch is in effect for our area until 7 AM Wednesday. Where there are more pauses in the rain, totals will be closer to 2 inches but some will receive at least 4 inches of rainfall total. Creeks and streams run high and areas with poor runoff could face flooding problems. Busy commute hours could face more slowdowns, with fog and standing water on roads as well.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Drivers used to heading down Western Ave. may have to find another way around for the next two of weeks or so. On Monday, KUB plans to shut down the road from Keith Avenue to Richmond Ave. at 9:00 a.m. so it can work on its sewer system improvement project.
While Western Ave. will be closed to through traffic, the road will stay open for area businesses and emergency vehicles. Weather permitting, KUB expects the road to reopen on May 14th.
KUB has set up a a detour route along Texas Ave., Heiskell Ave., Johnston St., Tennessee Ave., and Schofield St. (see map above) and placed signs all along the route to direct traffic.
