LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT: As periods of heavy rain and thunder continue to move through East Tennessee, FLOODING is a concern, due to a saturated ground. Watch for water-covered roads, creeks and streams to run high. Remember TADD, "turn around don't drown."
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Utilities Board is preparing for winter weather conditions.
"If there is a heavy, wet snow, restoring power will be a multi-day event," KUB writes in a release, asking customers to "be patient as our crews work as quickly as they safely can to restore power."
KUB asks that customers report outages immediately but says storms, work crews address calls based on a scale that measures the number of people and types of services impacted by the outage.
On a safety tips page, the utility recommends that customers keep an emergency kit on hand that includes batteries, flashlights, a battery-operated radio, nonperishable food items, bottled water, and a cell phone or single line phone because cordless phones don't work without electricity.
