Wondering what to do if you have a recalled car? Weigh your options

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) It's only four months into the year, and already there have been more than 13 million cars recalled from manufacturers.

The latest came from Toyota on Wednesday when it announced 6.3 million vehicles are being recalled for faulty airbags, wipers, seat rails, and steering columns. No deaths have been reported as being related to any of the affected parts.

General Motors recently recalled 4.8 million cars due to power steering issues and problems with the key coming out of the ignition while the car was being used.

Ford also had a recent recall of nearly 400,000 vehicles that were having issues of corrosion in the under body of the car.

Mazda recalled 42,000 Mazda6 vehicles for a potential fire hazard caused by spiders building a web in the fuel hose.

But where can you turn if you have any of the affected vehicles? Your first option is to call your local car dealer to make sure your car is on the recall list, and then ask what needs to be done to get it fixed.

G.M. car owners can bring their vehicle to their nearest Chevy dealer if they feel that it is unsafe to drive their car, and G.M. will reimburse the owner for the costs of renting a car.

"You can actually call the dealers and bring your vehicle in, and at that time, if you want to, you can leave your vehicle, and they're (G.M.) providing loaner vehicles for you to drive," Stanley Griffin of Beaty Chevy in Knoxville explained.
