Federal shutdown delays Smoky Montains trail work even further

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Repair work on a popular trail in the Smoky Mountains has met with further delays.

The Daily Times reports rehabilitation work on the Chimney Tops Trail won't resume until next spring.

Park spokeswoman Dana Soehn told the newspaper that the shutdown, which shuttered the park Oct. 1 through Oct. 17, put the project even further behind schedule.

Work was also delayed by flooding earlier in the year, but Soehn said officials are still hoping to complete repairs by the end of next year.
