CAMPBELL CO., Tenn. (WVLT) -- Authorities identified the truck driver killed in an early morning wreck on Highway 25W on Wednesday.
Michael Simmons, 56, was killed when the semi he was driving went off the road, hit a guardrail, and flipped down an embankment before finally coming to a rest against a tree.
Forty-four year-old David Cardwell who was riding with Simmons was injured in the crash. Both Simmons and Cardwell hailed from California and worked for CRST out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The were hauling shirts at the time of the wreck.
The wreck shut down both lanes of the highway, which is already being used as a detour around I-75S construction. They reopened late Wednesday morning.
I-75S through Campbell Co. was shut down for road construction following a landslide in March, and 25W was set as the traffic detour.
