TVA closing stretch of Emory River for coal ash cleanup

Posted: 08/04/2009 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) are bringing in large hydraulic equipment to expedite the removal of ash from the Emory River. To keep the river as safe as possible, the Emory River will be closed beginning Aug. 11, 2009, from mile marker 1.5 to mile marker 3 for a minimum of 30 days.
