TVA's coal ash cleanup could cost $525-825 million

Updated: 02/12/2009 - TVA has spent $31 million in the six-and-a-half weeks since a storage pond rupture at its coal-fired power plant in Harriman covered 300 acres in wet coal ash. The costs of full cleanup are expected to be at least $525 million, and perhaps as high as $825 million, not including fines, awards or settlements in lawsuits, or the price to comply with any new federal regulations.
