FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) -- Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division, will discuss recent casualties in eastern Afghanistan where he leads coalition forces in a tough fight with insurgents this spring.
Campbell is scheduled to speak with reporters at Fort Campbell on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line on Thursday by video from his headquarters in Bagram. NATO announced this week that six of its service members were killed by insurgents on Tuesday. British Maj. Tim James, a NATO spokesman, said the troops were killed in three separate incidents during an operation in the northeast province of Kunar.
No other details about the deaths were released pending notification of their next of kin. So far this year 100 coalition troops have been killed in Afghanistan.
