Alcoa's Cobb drafted in second round by Packers

NEW YORK CITY (WVLT/AP) -- Alcoa native Randall Cobb is headed to Titletown USA.

Cobb, a former All-American at Kentucky, was drafted in the second round by the Green Bay Packers. The wide receiver/kick returner was the 64th overall pick.

"It's probably the best place I could have landed," Cobb told WVLT Friday night.

"Not only are they the defending world champions, but you also have Aaron Rodgers and a great receiving corps where I get in and learn some things and hopefully contribute the first year."

The 5-foot-10, 192-pound Cobb could help the Packers' pass-heavy offense and potentially shore up what has been an inconsistent return game. He began his college career as a quarterback.

Cobb said he didn't have the feeling that the Packers would select him.

"I was surprised because I hadn't heard from them. I saw them at the combine, but hadn't heard from them since then. I had been hearing some things things about other teams, but those teams didn't take me. Luckily, I was still on the board and fortunate enough to be able to go there."

Cobb, who declared for the draft after his junior year with the Wildcats, won four state football championship at Alcoa High School.
