Crimetracker: Suspect in deadly crash indicted for armed robbery spree

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The man accused of causing a deadly crash in September 2012, was indicted in an armed robbery spree by a federal grand jury Tuesday.

Tyler Schaeffer, 21, is charged with conspiracy, armed robbery and several drug related offenses. He faces at least 107 years in prison.

Two others, Jerel Johnson and Rodney Ruffin were also charged in connection with some of the robberies.

Johnson pleaded not guilty Wednesday. His trial is set for May. He faces at least 32 years in prison.

Schaeffer is also accused of being high and driving an SUV that slammed into a church van killing Courtney Kaliszewski and Jeff Trussell. He appeared in court in December and was appointed a public defender. His next court date is set for April.
