SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- A high school basketball player is charged with assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
According to court documents, the assault on the teenage girl happened at Sevier County High School Saturday. Later that night, Devin Schmidt, 18, turned himself in to authorities. The senior is facing domestic assault charges.
The arrest warrant describes the assault saying Schmidt pushed the girl "against a brick wall, hit her head against the brick wall, grabbed her by the neck, spit on her twice and then broke her cell phone."
According to the warrant, the victim suffered "visible injuries consistent with assault" and "it was captured on videotape."
School officials would not comment, telling Local 8 News it is an open investigation.
Schmidt, a top scoring player for the Smoky Bears, did post a statement on twitter: "I love all of my teammates thank you guys for everything! Everybody who doesn't know the story please stop."
He will not play in Tuesday's semi-final playoff game.
