Dollywood at Christmastime

PIGEON FORGE, Tn.(WVLT)--Dolly Parton said it best. "You know, Dollywood is about spending time together, its about shows that move you and great festivals like my Smokey Mountain Christmas"

Christmas in Tennessee is special and at Dollywood it's a high priority.

It all began in 1990 and hasn't stopped getting bigger and more noticeable around the country.

Pete Owens of Dollywood told us, "It's actually the number one Christmas event in any theme park in the world. We have owned the golden ticket since 2007."

Dollywood is special everyday because of the feeling you get when you come to the park, that hospitality, that warm feeling so when you dress that up and 4 million lights you have seven holiday shows, you do a lighted Christmas parade, you have all the different things that feel like a holiday with that feeling
of family, I think people come in and get into the Christmas spirit and it's what really makes us number one."

Speaking of lights, they go up around July 4th in areas folks can't see, then the park closes at the end of October. and it takes five days to turn it into Christmas.

Pete said, "We do a lighted Christmas parade that has Santa in it, but has toys that come to life .

Everything is illuminated so it really is a wow for kids"

"The one show Dollywood is known for at Christmas is "Christmas in the Smokies", it;s been a staple for this festival since 1990. It tells
the story of a family coming home for Christmas, it's based here in Appalachia.

And while you're there, there's even a skating rink with Olympic class skaters and singers.

Certainly a great place to really get into the holiday spirit. Driving in your neighborhood, I'm the Tennessee Traveler
