KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Easter is a day for Christians around the world to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
But for one local family, celebrating their savior's sacrifice at a sunrise service was the perfect place to pay tribute to those who have given to their country.
"It's peaceful," said Amy Samples. "There's just a still, calm peace over the whole place."
As the moon shone on sacred ground, one family celebrated Easter Sunday at a place that holds extra special meaning. This Sunday is a spiritual awakening for the Samples family.
"Not only the meaning to celebrate it with Jesus Christ, but my father is also buried here too," said Terry Samples.
Sisters Terry and Amy Samples joined others in celebration at the East Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery, with their father Tommy on their minds.
"We just thought that it would be something to respect him, come and kind of be with him on this special day," said Amy.
The family is at home among other believers at the Central Baptist Bearden Church's annual predawn prayer and song. It's not only a way for the Sample sisters to celebrate Easter but a way to give thanks to brave warriors.
"It's breath-taking," said Terry. "I mean, to see all the soldiers that died for this country as well."
"He would would be proud. He was good man and he served our country in the army," Amy added.
