A LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT is in effect into Wednesday due repeated rainfall. A Flood Watch is in effect for our area until 7 AM Wednesday. Where there are more pauses in the rain, totals will be closer to 2 inches but some will receive at least 4 inches of rainfall total. Creeks and streams run high and areas with poor runoff could face flooding problems. Busy commute hours could face more slowdowns, with fog and standing water on roads as well.
FUKUSHIMA, Japan (AP) -- A plant spokesman says workers have been evacuated from Japan's tsunami-stricken nuclear complex after gray smoke was seen rising from one of its reactors.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. spokesman Hiroshi Aizawa said the company was investigating after the smoke was seen rising from the spent fuel storage pool of Unit 3.
Plant officials have been battling to cool reactors and spent fuel pools to bring the radiation-leaking plant under control after it was damaged in the massive March 11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeast Japan.
