Harlan County Sheriff's office involved in shooting

HARLAN, Ky. (WVLT) – On November 30 at approximately 11 p.m. Post 10, Harlan received a call from the Harlan County Sheriff's Office for assistance at an apartment in Harlan with reference to deputies involved in a shooting.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office was executing a search warrant on Joseph Edwards, 26, of Harlan.

When deputies attempted to make entry into his apartment, Mr. Edwards began shooting at deputies through the door. Deputies returned fire back at Mr. Edwards. He then surrendered and was placed into custody without incident.

No injuries occurred during the incident.

At this time, Mr. Edwards ischarged with attempted murder and wanton endangerment. More charges are pending.
