KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- A hiker reported missing in the Smokies, is back in touch with his family.
He lost contact with them last week.
The communication break-down sparked a search effort for 23-year-old Chad Hunter.
Park officials say last night, Hunter left a message by phone with his family-- saying he arrived at the Tri-Corner Knob shelter.
The hiker was supposed to wrap up his 3 day solo trip on Thursday, but his parents reported him missing, when they didn't hear from him.
About 30 park workers were involved in the search.
It's not clear if hunter became lost or not.
