Body found in Monroe County

Monroe County, TN (WVLT) - A body was recovered on Tuesday inside of a barrell off of Wilson Station Road in Mount Vernon.

The Monroe County Sheriff's office received information from Blount County authorities on a possible body being in their area. a thorough search was done in the suggested area, but nothing was found. In the Spring of 2010, authorities received information from another source pointing them to the same area.

Crews along with various equipment searched around the area again in July, but decreased their efforts so they could focus on the Jim Miller homicide.

Within the last few weeks, more information came in, pinpointing them to an area with several sinkholes, one of which the body was found. It took the TBI, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Blount County Sheriff's Office, Graham Couty NC Sheriff's Office, the TDOT, and Monroe County's Hazardous Material Response Team to assist in the digging down as far as 25 feet.

The identity of the victim isn't being released, but the Monroe County Buzz is reporting he is in his 20's and has been missing since April 2009 from North Carolina. The case is being treated as a homicide with possible suspects in East Tennessee, including Monroe County.
