DANDRIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities in Dandridge say a 23-year-old man and his girlfriend's 13-year-old son have drowned in Douglas Lake.
Jefferson County Sheriff G.W. "Bud" McCoig told The Associated Press the swimmers, who also included an 11-year-old boy, were in chest-deep water on Sunday evening when the wake from a passing boat rocked the water. They tried to swim back to shore, but only the younger boy made it.
Rescuers recovered the bodies of the man and the 13-year-old about 45 minutes after they went under.
McCoig says the man and the boys were swimming along an old road bed near a boat launch area.
The teen's mother was on the bank screaming for help when the first deputy arrived minutes after the call came in.
