KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Two local emergency workers are recoverning, after having to be rescued themselves.
Knoxville Police tell us, a little before three Saturday morning, a Rural Metro ambulance traveling on I-40 east, near I-640, flipped over.
As the ambulance, which was responding to an emergency call, approached the exit for I-640, the driver lost control. The vehicle then ran off the road and slid down an embankment, before landing on its side.
There were no patients onboard, but both Rural Metro workers had to be pulled out of the ambulance by other emergency crews.
Rural metro tells us one of the workers is in the intensive care unit at UT, while the co-worker was treated and released.
They believe the rainy weather played a role in the wreck.
