NORTH KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) --
It's a 25 thousand pound of pork donation from Smithfield foods.
After learning about second harvest losing 150-thousand dollars worth of food in the recent flood.
Dennis Pittman of Smithfield says, "We know people are having it tough, and it's a chance to give back to people who have been our customers. Smithfield ahas been in business for 75 years. We want to make sure our customers are taken care of in good times and bad."
John Jones of Food City says, "There is such a need to help feed the hungry in this region, and us being Food City we're glad to be a part of it."
The food bank says the plump size portion of protein allows them to feed their needs.
Donna Hottinger of SHFB "This is going to make a huge impact in that particular area of food which is sometimes the hardest for us to get." .
Donna says, We've got a long way to go to get our inventory back to where it needs to be, but this is such a gratifying wonderful thing."
