GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- The road to the highest point in the Smokies is opening two days early.
The National Park Service says Clingmans Dome Road will be open to traffic Wednesday morning. It usually is opened on April 1.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park spokesman Bob Miller says the visitor station, restrooms and other facilities are ready and the snow has melted, so the road will be opened Wednesday.
